Cancer rates in Queensland

MORE QUEENSLANDERS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER THAN EVER BEFORE

- The number of cancers diagnosed in the state have more than tripled since 1982

- One in two Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer before age 80

- One in seven will die from it

- Across all types of cancer, the average five-year survival rate is 69.9 per cent

- Prostate cancer was the most commonly diagnosed cancer in 2013 but has the second-highest survival rate of 93.2 per cent

- Lung cancer was the deadliest cancer in 2013, accounting for a fifth of 8651 cancer-related deaths, and has a 16 per cent survival rate

- Pancreatic cancer has the poorest survival rate of less than eight per cent
