Eight-year-old boy allegedly murdered by father in Canberra

A Canberra father has been accused of murdering his eight-year-old son last night.

The 37-year-old man will face ACT Magistrates Court today charged with murder and a number of assault offences.

The boy was taken to hospital after police and ambulance officers attended a home about 8pm.

“Police and ACT Ambulance Service officers attended a residence last night and a male child was transported to hospital where he later died”, a police statement said.

Neighbours said there were no screams and there had been no warning of a violent murder allegedly taking place on Monday night, Canberra Times reports.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
