Canberra Hospital reopens after blaze

Canberra Hospital's elective surgery and outpatient services should return to normal on Friday following an electrical fire which forced the cancellation of some services on Thursday.

Up to 60 people were evacuated from the hospital on Wednesday night as smoke billowing from a smouldering switchboard clogged lower levels.

Emergency crews worked to restore power, with the blaze wreaking havoc on electricity.

The hospital said in a statement on Thursday afternoon that appointments booked for Friday would proceed as planned.

"ACT Health is contacting patients whose surgery or appointments were affected today to ensure they have a rescheduled appointment at the earliest opportunity," the statement said.
