Police are yet to find any trace of Canadian tourist Maxime Gagnon more than six weeks after he was last seen in the Cairns area.

There are serious concerns for the 29-year-old who hasn't been in contact with family or friends since May 6.

Police say there's nothing to suggest foul play at this stage but say it's out of character for him to have gone without contact for so long. They've issued a public appeal to help find him.

He is described as being Caucasian in appearance, 180cm tall with a proportionate build.

He has blue eyes and brown hair.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
