* 9000 people have been interviewed by immigration officials and are being processed through health, security and character checks
* 1000 visas have been issued

* 300 Syrians and Iraqis arrived under normal refugee intake
* Government defends comparatively slow intake by arguing it needs to prevent terrorists attempting to enter Australia posing as refugees
