Woman attacked with hammer in critical condition

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was seriously injured at Campsie early today.

Emergency services were called to a flat on Campsie Street just before 5am, where they found a woman with serious head injuries.

The accused is believed to have used a hammer and a carving knife

The woman, believed to aged 34, was taken to St George Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Campsie Local Area Command arrested a 51-year-old man at the scene.

The man, who is the woman’s partner, was taken to Campsie Police Station. He has since been charged with attempted murder.

He was bail refused to appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow.
