Call goes out for Aboriginal carers

The peak body for Aboriginal children and families has called for indigenous people to open their doors to become carers.

With more than 6000 Aboriginal children removed from their families across NSW, only one in five was able to be placed with Aboriginal families, AbSec chief executive Tim Ireland said.

"Aboriginal kinship carers and foster carers know how important family is, the importance of connection to country, to be part of community. They understand that our culture and identity is a source of strength, resilience and hope for our children and young people," Mr Ireland said.
