Man missing for three days south of Cairns found safe

A 53-year-old man who was missing for more than three days, south of Cairns has been found safe. 

The man was reported missing on Saturday, after his family were unable to contact him. 

SES crews and police conducted searches around Edmonton and the Bentley Park area, where the man was last seen.

They combed through bushland, near creeks and behind suburban areas, urging residents to check their backyards and sheds. 

It's believed the 53-year-old was outside overnight, when temperatures dropped to near record-breaking lows across the Far North. 

Police say he was found by a member of the public this morning. 

He has been taken to Cairns hospital for assessment.
