Tributes line the streets as first Buxton crash victim farewelled

The first of five funerals for the teenagers killed in a tragic crash last week was held today as the community reels with the massive loss.

Three hundred family friends and loved ones attended a private service to remember 15-year-old Tyrese Bechard in Picton this morning.

The teenager was remembered as a loyal son, grandson and classmate who loved BMX riding.

He had big dreams to buy a house and a car so he could look after his grandparents in return for caring for him.

Students and teachers from Picton High School, where Tyrese studied, were given the day off to attend the funeral.

"Tyrese what a champion guy he was, what a good bloke, he loved his family, he did anything for his friends and it's just so sad to see a beautiful soul like that not with us anymore," friend Nathaniel Smith said.

Exaven White, father of Antonio, and Lily van de Putte's dad Jonathan were there in solidarity. Their children also died in the crash and will be farewelled in the coming days.

Across the Wollondilly Shire residents are flying balloons from their letter boxes in five different colours, for each of the five lives lost.

"It's a simple thing we can do to show we do care and the entire community here in Wollondilly has their backs," Wollondilly Shire Mayor Matt Gould said.
