Buswell charged over string of car crashes

Former West Australian treasurer Troy Buswell has been charged with 11 traffic offences in connection with an early morning rampage in Perth's western suburbs in February.

WA Police confirmed on Tuesday that a 48-year-old man had been charged by summons in connection with a series of crashes in Subiaco in the early hours of February 23.

Police allege he crashed into parked cars on two separate streets, causing damage to four vehicles and a telephone pole.

It's also alleged that he failed to stop and failed to report the incidents to police.

He has been charged with three counts of fail to stop at traffic accident, four counts of fail to report a traffic accident and four counts of careless driving.

The matter is expected to be heard in the Perth Magistrates Court on April 29.

Mr Buswell quit as treasurer after it emerged he crashed his car following a drinking session at a wedding.

The WA government has been sought for comment.

WA Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan said last month that Mr Buswell was unlikely to face drink driving charges, with any conviction without breath test analysis virtually impossible.

The penalty for failing to stop at an accident where no-one is injured is a fine up to $1500, while the court can choose to impose a period of licence disqualification.

The penalty for failing to report an accident where there is no injury and the driver is a fine of up to $400 for a first offence and up to $800 for a subsequent offence.

Each careless driving charge carries a fine of up to $600 and three demerit points.
