Buswell and Carles settle defamation case

Western Australian Treasurer Troy Buswell has settled his defamation case against his former lover Adele Carles.

Mr Buswell launched legal action against the former Greens MP in December 2012 over claims she made in the media alleging inappropriate behaviour.

The confidential out-of-court settlement includes a written apology from Ms Carles to Mr Buswell.

"I now accept that the comments I made regarding Mr Buswell contained defamatory allegations and I unreservedly apologise for making these allegations," she wrote.

"I sincerely apologise for the damage, distress and embarrassment that I have caused to Mr Buswell."

Ms Carles has also given a written apology to others, including businessman Nigel Satterley and seafood magnate Nick Kailis.

Ms Carles had used press conferences, a radio interview and social media to make comments about Mr Buswell's state of mind, drinking and behaviour at a party at Mr Satterley's home.

She had also claimed Mr Kailis was on the receiving end of Mr Buswell's alleged behaviour.

Ms Carles could not be reached for comment.
