Bushfires devastate 1.6m hectares

BUSHFIRES AROUND AUSTRALIA

NSW

* More than 1.4 million hectares have been burned.

* Four people dead, dozens injured including firefighters.

* As of Monday morning, there are more than 60 fires burning.

* More than 1900 firefighters and support personnel, along with 95 aircraft.

* Over the past two weeks, more than 550 houses have been destroyed, and nearly 1000 more outbuildings.

QUEENSLAND

* Fires are continuing to burn in southeast Queensland.

* 183,000 hectares burned since September.

* 55 fires are still burning across the state.

* Twenty homes confirmed lost.

* More than 3600 firefighters on the frontline for more than two weeks, along with aircraft.

* 50 firefighters injured, including the pilot of a water bombing helicopter that crashed near Toowoomba.

VICTORIA

* Easing of conditions.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

* 16 houses destroyed, along with 21 other structures.

* Four firefighters injured.

* Fires continue to burn across southern parts of the state.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

* Severe to Extreme fire dangers are forecast Monday over southern and central fire weather areas.

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

* Disaster recovery assistance is being provided.

* Tax Office says taxpayers affected by the fires don't need to worry about their tax affairs.

* Department of Health working with pharmacists regarding the supply of medicines to affected communities.

* Full resources of the Australian Defence Force made available.
