Bushfire threatens people north of Broome

A bushfire north of Broome in Western Australia's Kimberley region authorities believe was deliberately lit is once again posing a threat to lives and homes.

A watch and act warning was in place for three hours on Sunday for people near Barred Creek and travellers on Cape Leveque Road and Manari Road, 40 kilometres north of Broome.

The alert level was downgraded to an advice after the blaze started burning in inaccessible terrain.

But on Monday, another watch and act alert was issued because variable winds had pushed the fire back towards towards Cape Leveque Road and Manari Road.

The unpredictable and out-of-control bushfire is now burning on two fronts.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said firefighters were strengthening containment lines.

The bushfire was reported on Tuesday afternoon and its cause is suspicious.
