Bushfire threat to Vic community eases
A bushfire is still burning out of control in Victoria's southwest but the threat to a nearby town has been averted.
The fire threatened homes near the town of Narrawong but the advice for residents was downgraded from an emergency warning to a watch-and-act status on Wednesday morning, according to the CFA.
Light rain has helped, with roads on the south side of the fire reopened and residents have been told they can return home, the Heywood Incident Control Centre said.
Fire crews expect to have the 1549-hectare blaze under control by Wednesday night.
The fire had been travelling in a southerly direction from Golf Course Road, Mt Clay State Forest and towards Tower Road, with residents near Blackers Road told to leave on Tuesday afternoon.
