Bushfire threat reduced to Advice for a Far North Queensland town

The bushfire threat has been reduced for a town in Far North Queensland.

The Cooktown fire is now at Advice level, following an earlier Emergency Warning.

The vegetation fire is burning at Cooktown in the vicinity of Ironwood Ave and Oaky Creek Road and surrounding streets which include Poison Creek Road, Solander Road, Lee Road, Flaggy Road and Minke Road.

Firefighters are conducting back-burning operations and will continue to monitor the situation overnight.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Properties are not under direct threat at this time
