Bus blaze forces passengers to flee

Dramatic video has captured the moment a bus in Adelaide caught on fire, forcing passengers to flee to safety last night.

The fire started just after 7pm yesterday, as the O-Bahn bus was travelling north along West Terrace, on the outskirts of the city.

Passengers watched from the footpath as the bus turned into a raging inferno, which was extinguished by firefighters in 20 minutes.

Police directed traffic away from the bus, fearing that flames or smoke could cause an accident on the busy stretch of road.

Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the blaze, but it's believed to have started in the rear brakes, before spreading to the engine.

This is the second fire on an articulated bus in Adelaide this year, raising questions about the safety and maintenance of the vehicles.

The Department of Transport has been contacted for comment.
