How a woman allegedly stole a $42,000 car from a Melbourne dealership

Police are searching for a woman who allegedly used a fake identity to steal a $42,000 VW Golf from a dealership in Melbourne's north.

She allegedly used a modified driver's licence and stolen identity details to buy the car on finance at the dealership on Grimshaw Street, Bundoora after 10.30am on May 4.

The stolen identity has also been used to make disaster relief claims and in multiple other applications for finance, police allege.

The woman is described as approximately 35 to 45-years-old with long brown hair with dyed-blonde streaks or extensions.

She was wearing black high heels, a black dress or skirt, and a black overcoat with a fur-lined hood.

She also had an ID lanyard around her neck.
