Hasler filling in for Hodkinson at Bulldogs training

Bulldogs half Trent Hodkinson is yet to train this week as he continues to struggle with a knee injury he suffered against the Sea Eagles.

While the club says he's in no danger of missing Saturday's preliminary final against Penrith, it has forced a surprising change on the training track.

While Hodkinson rests his dodgy knee, his coach and former star halfback Des Hasler has been filling in at training.

"Des has been going good there I think he'd really love to play," captain Michael Ennis told a press conference today.

The club says despite a scare against Manly, Hasler is confident that Hodkinson’s knee injury won’t put him in any doubt for Saturday’s final against the Panthers.

This could also be the Ennis' last week at the club and he is becoming nostalgic with most things at Canterbury.

He told reporters today he is facing the reality of losing “the players and the staff and the people I've worked so hard [training] with.”

Many are surprised Josh Jackson is playing this week, suffered a chicken wing tackle against Manly last week.

"You certainly don't go out and try and do these things. [I am] definitely feeling relieved now. [But] a bit of worry there, [I]definitely didn't want to miss a preliminary final," he said.

Saturday’s final is set to be an epic match, expected to go right down to the wire.

There have been more games won by one point this year than ever before the Bulldogs have the highest tally with four the Panthers just behind in equal second with three.
