Small business budget help to be extended

A budget package to boost small businesses will be extended to private and smaller operators.

The 1.5 per cent tax cut tipped to be included in Tuesday's release will be spread more broadly in the sector, benefiting tradies and others.

"There will be support for both incorporated and unincorporated small businesses," Assistant Treasurer Josh Frydenberg told ABC radio.

Small Business Minister Bruce Billson described the package as "delightful" and "delicious".

"Showing respect and reward and encouragement for those small businesses that are crucial to jobs and economic growth," he said.

The peak body representing small businesses is glad there will be a tax cut, but says a bigger help would be an investment allowance to help buy new equipment.

"None of my people get excited about the tax break," Council of Small Business of Australia executive director Peter Strong told ABC radio.

"What we want is that focus on spending."

Labor has welcomed confirmation the government intends extending support to all small businesses.

But opposition finance spokesman Tony Burke said the coalition had abolished assistance Labor introduced in government.

"I'm not going to give them a wild round of applause if tonight they reintroduce programs," he told reporters in Canberra.
