‘He called and said I love you’: Mother pays tribute to son killed in ‘hit-run’

A devastated mother has paid tribute to her teenage son who was killed in an alleged hit-and-run.

Jeynelle Dean-Hayes had spoken to her 18-year-old son, Tyler, just hours before he was struck and killed on Atkins Road, Buckley, Geelong, last night.

“He called and said ‘I love you’ and I said ‘be safe, I love you too’,” Mrs Dean-Hayes told 9NEWS this afternoon.

Police allege Billy Jay-Glynn was behind the wheel of his four-wheel-drive when he hit Tyler, an apprentice.

The 18-year-old died at the scene, while the 21-year-old driver allegedly fled the scene.

News crews are also believed to have come across a bag of marijuana near the crash site, but by the time authorities has arrived it had been was picked up by a man travelling in a black Holden Commodore.

Mr Jay-Glynn was arrested at a property in Winchelsea in the hours after the crash, with officers also seizing his vehicle.

He has since with dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop and failing to render assistance. He was bailed to appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
