An early morning cycle for a NSW Riverina man took a brutal turn on Saturday, when a large kangaroo jumped straight into his path - the fierce impact of the 40km/h collision captured on camera.

Junee resident Dominic Shepherd was left with four sets of stitches and extensive bruising following the horrifying crash, which killed the kangaroo instantly.

“Four lots of stitches, skinned knees, bruising all over my body, and my thumbs where I landed on the grips - I can’t move my thumbs,” Mr Shepherd told WIN News.

The group of 20 cyclists were travelling between Harefield and Wagga when the kangaroo bolted onto the road, ploughing straight into Mr Shepherd.

A doctor in the group administered aid to him before an emergency team arrived and took Mr Shepherd to hospital.

Incredibly, no other cyclists were injured in the accident and Mr Shepherd did not suffer any broken bones.

“It’s just one of those things. It’s pretty rare but it does happen, it’s part of the game,” Mr Shepherd said, adding that it won’t be long before he hops back on the bike.
