Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson reportedly sued over ‘Uptown Funk’

The creators of mega-hit Uptown Funk have been handed a copyright infringement lawsuit from the musician behind a similar sounding 80s track, US media reports.

Music group Collage have claimed the harmony, rhythm, melody and structure of their 1983 single, ‘Young Girls’, was copied by Bruno Mars and producer Mark Ronson for their 2014 song, ‘Uptown Funk’, TMZ reports.

"Upon information and belief, many of the main instrumental attributes and themes of ‘Uptown Funk’ are deliberately and clearly copied from ‘Young Girls’," the official complaint states.

The last living member of Collage, Larry White, contends Mr Mars and Mr Ronson had “heard” and were "influenced" by the electro-funk tune.

‘Uptown Funk’ has sold more than 6.1 million copies and held the number one spot on the US music charts for 13 weeks.

Earlier this year, female rap group Sequence claimed elements of the song were stolen from their song ‘Funk You Up’.

Sequence did not take legal action, Pitchfork reported.
