Brisbane woman attacked by a dingo on Fraser Island calls for better education

A Brisbane mother who was attacked by a dingo has called for better education about the animals on Fraser Island.

Tessa Kemp was jogging when she was bitten several times and had to undergo surgery.

“It’s just a few stiches and a few dressings and I'm good,” she said.

The attack interrupted a ritual morning jog with her sister along Fraser Island and left her with eight stitches and a course of antibiotics.

“We’ve never been told not to jog, they just started going in for the calves and the knees and started growling,” Ms Kemp said.

It’s thought they may have looked like a dingo’s prey.

“If you do go to Fraser Island don’t feed the dingoes be very much aware that they are there, we’ve got signage all over the island and have camp grounds that are fenced and they are the places to stay,” Steve Dickson, National Parks Minister said.

Rangers have stepped up patrols and have closed several campgrounds.

“It’s not going to stop me from having my children down on the beach playing,” Ms Kemp said.

“It’s not going to stop my husband from fishing there but I probably won’t go jogging on the beach again.”
