Brisbanites forbidden from leaving homes during G20

Residents in some Brisbane suburbs will be forbidden from leaving or entering their homes while world leaders are on the move during the G20 summit later this year.

More details have emerged of the strict rules that will be faced by people whose homes fall in the "restricted zone", including having to provide private vehicle details to police as a condition of the massive security operation.

It has also been revealed a "solid" wall will be built around the Stamford Plaza in a major boost of security for the inner-city five star hotel where it is suspected US President Barack Obama will stay during his Brisbane visit, The Courier-Mail reported.

Officials start work on G20 agenda

The two-day November forum of 28 world leaders will attract 4000 delegates and 3000 media representatives, and will be Queensland's biggest security event in history, with the government last year passing legislation giving police special powers to deal with protesters and potential troublemakers.

Simon Barnard, the Queensland president of Strata Community Australia, which represents nearly 400,000 apartment owners state-wide, said many residents plan to leave Brisbane during G20.

"We have been told there will be disruptions while they're moving delegates, and residents won't be able to leave or enter their apartments during that period," he said.

"Where necessary, if something occurs or there's a known threat, residents will be confined to their units."
