Brisbane residents could face steeper parking fines, new congestion tax
Brisbane residents could soon see a hike parking fees and fines, in a bid to reduce congestion in the city's CBD.
A new report from the Australian Productivity Commission suggested charging more to enter the city could be the key to easing Brisbane's traffic.
If the report's findings are enacted, Brisbane residents could soon pay a fee for driving into the city at peak times, and be required to pay more for parking tickets.

Cities like London, with a population of 9 million people, have enacted similar measures.
Brisbane has a population of 2.2 million and many believe fee hikes are not the answer.
"I've been listening to a lot of arguments, and I don't believe it is," one resident said.

Some residents are against the proposal, while others say they'd be more likely to take the bus. Nine
Others have said with an increase in parking fees, they'd be more likely to catch public transport into the city.
A spokesperson from the Department of Transport and Main Roads said no moves have been made to implement report recommendations, like the congestion tax, so far.

Brisbane's deputy mayor, Krista Adams, said increased public transport use would be crucial to improving traffic conditions.
"I think it will be a struggle to get people back on the buses but we are trying," Ms Adamas said.
"We want to make public transport really really attractive to people."
9News contacted the Productivity Commission, but it declined to comment.
