Brisbane man hands himself in after taking wrong drug

A Brisbane man with a warrant out for his arrest handed himself in to police after allegedly taking amphetamines when he meant to take heroin.

Detective Inspector Geoff Sheldon said the 39-year-old unnamed man, from Acacia Ridge, went to police for help after he began worrying about the effect the drug was having on him, The Courier Mail reports.

"He pulled up in the back carpark in the middle of the night," Mr Sheldon said.

"He came in thinking he’d had heroin but he had had 'speed'. Apparently one has a markedly different experience from the other."

An ambulance was called for the man, who was allegedly heavily affected by the drug, before he was treated and given the all-clear.

But the man's problems were only just beginning.

Police pointed out to him they believed he had driven to the police station under the influence of drugs, and decided to search his car.

Not only was he driving without a licence, they also allegedly found a large knife in his car and discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly violating his parole.

The man was taken into custody and will face traffic and weapons charges.
