Entire suburbs in Brisbane were blanketed in hail today after the city was lashed by weekend storms.

The deluge dumped 39 millimetres of rain in just 15 minutes in one area, forcing motorists to pull over and wait for the worst to pass.

Golf-ball sized hail left front and backyards and suburban streets completely blanketed in white, with football fields and golf courses also resembling snow fields.

Some roads were closed, however the deluge was brief and the spring sun had re-emerged by the afternoon.

This afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology cancelled a previously issued severe weather warning.

Photos on social media showed the impact of the hailstorm, particularly in Ipswich, Toowong, Indoorpilly and Tarina.
