Brisbane braces for wild weather following spectacular storm

Every single television transmission tower on Brisbane's Mt Coot-tha was reportedly struck by lightning during an awesome electrical storm last night, and more wild weather is predicted to hit the Queensland capital later today.

The storm, described by one user  commenting on 612 ABC Brisbane's Facebook page as a "timewaster" because it only delivered a scant 8mm of rain, made up for what it lacked in precipitation with an exhilarating visual display.

In addition to the half-dozen towers reportedly struck, another member of the public believes a tower at Enoggera army barracks also copped a bolt, though it is not clear whether that happened at the same instant as the other six.

Channel Nine staff on location told ninemsn that while it's common for one or two towers on the site to be struck during a storm, all of them being hit at once is certainly out of the ordinary; in addition to Nine, SBS, Seven, Ten, ABC and 31 Digital all broadcast from the spot.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning that flash floods, strong winds and large hailstones could hit the state's southeast this afternoon.
