Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk meets with IOC talks for 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games bid

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will cut short her overseas mission to officially push for an Olympics in Queensland and return to her fire-ravaged state.

Ms Palaszczuk left for Switzerland on Saturday to meet International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach, two days into an unprecedented bushfire crisis.

During the talks, which also included Australian Olympic Committee President John Coates, Ms Palaszczuk and her delegation focused on the specific requirements of hosting the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.

The discussions included information on financing, venues and transport plans should Brisbane be awarded the Games.

Ms Palaszczuk and her delegation also signed the IOC Golden Book and talked about the unfolding bushfire crisis in Queensland.

She was due to return on Saturday but will now arrive home on Thursday amid criticism she abandoned the state during the unfolding emergency.

"The premier should never have left the state in the first place," Liberal National Party leader Deb Frecklington said today.

People have lost their homes, rainforest has been burnt and a treasured tourist lodge has been destroyed.

The emergency is far from over.

Ms Palaszczuk told reporters in Switzerland overnight the fires had been playing on her mind.

"It's gut-wrenching but my thoughts are with the people at home."

A delegation travelling with the premier included Mr Coates, Council of Mayors South East Queensland representative Mark Jamieson and federal MPs Ted O'Brien and Milton Dick.
