Bring back national service: Lambie
AAP
Tasmanian independent Jacqui Lambie is disappointed the new Defence White Paper doesn't reintroduce national service for young people.
Senator Lambie, who dined with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at The Lodge with other Senate crossbenchers on Thursday night, said she was underwhelmed by the PM's dismissal of her call for a defence national service scheme in which unemployed young people would take on apprenticeships and trade training.
"He launched a 10 year $450 billion defence program and nowhere in that program did he or his government have room for the revival of a national service program for young people," she said in a statement.
