Brett Lee dragged into McGrath hunting scandal

Former Australian test cricket player Brett Lee has become involved in a hunting scandal involving fellow former cricketer Glenn McGrath after an image surfaced of the pair with a dead deer on a farm in South Africa.

Daily Mail Australia published the photo of the pair overnight, just a day after McGrath expressed his regret over a series of images showing him with dead animals during a licensed African hunting safari in 2008.

The new photo shows the pair with two children. Lee is resting one hand on the dead deer and the other around a child’s shoulders.

A spokesperson has reportedly confirmed the photo is of Lee.

McGrath issued a statement on Saturday via Twitter after the initial photos surfaced showing him smiling and holding a gun next to his kills which include an elephant and a buffalo.

“In 2008 I participated in a hunting safari in Zimbabwe that was licensed and legal but in hindsight highly inappropriate,” the statement read.

“It was an extremely difficult time in my life and looking back I deeply regret being involved.”

It is believed McGrath was referring to the death of his wife, Jane, in 2008.

McGrath has previously spoken about his love of hunting in an interview with the magazine of the Sports Shooters Association of Australia.

The photos have attracted widespread criticism with calls on social media to boycott the cancer charity he founded with Jane in 2002.
