Student suffers spinal injuries after tree branch falls on playground

A student has spinal injuries after a tree branched trapped him and a carer at a school playground in Bendigo. 

Authorities were called to Kalianna Special School this afternoon and found the two trapped under the branch. 

SES and paramedics freed the adult and the 10-year-old child a short time later. 

The boy was flown to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital in a serious condition.

The carer has been taken to a Bendigo Hospital with minor injuries. 

It's not clear what caused the branch to fall but authorities said the tree will likely be cut down.
