Boy killed in ski boat accident on Newcastle river

A teenage boy has died after falling into a river while riding a boat in the New South Wales town of Newcastle.

The 17-year-old was brought to shore after emergency services were called to the Williams River, near the Fitzgerald Bridge, just before 7pm yesterday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boat's skipper, 34-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to hospital for blood and urine tests.

A man skiing behind the boat was also uninjured. 

The ski boat will be forensically examined, police said, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
