Boy shot by police after 'lunging with knife' charged

Powered by

A 16-year-old boy who was shot by police during a dispute at his home south-west of Brisbane has been charged.

The boy was yesterday charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, following a police investigation into the disturbance which prompted officers to respond to the Springfield home on Wednesday.

Police will allege the boy attempted to strike a 43-year-old man with a knife during an "altercation" at the home about 2pm.

Just before 2.30pm, police arrived at the scene and shot at the boy, who they say was still armed with a knife.

He suffered two gunshot wounds to the stomach.

The teen was then taken to the Princess Alexanda Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and has since been released.

An Ethical Standards Command investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
