Bourke St attack: Stabbed businessman released from hospital

The second surviving victim of the terror attack in Melbourne’s CBD has been released from hospital.

Tasmanian businessman Rodney Patterson, an unnamed security guard, and restaurateur Sisto Malaspina were both stabbed by Hassan Khalif Shire Ali on Bourke Street on Friday afternoon.

Mr Malaspina, 74, died at the scene.

Mr Patterson and the guard were taken to Melbourne hospitals with upper-body injuries.

This afternoon, the Alfred Hospital confirmed Mr Patterson had been discharged from hospital. Yesterday the 24-year-old guard was released from the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

"The officer was hurt in the line of duty and has received medical care as well as support for himself and his family through our employee assistance program. He is recovering well," his employer said in an official statement.

The state funeral for Mr Malaspina will be held at St Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne next Tuesday at 10.30am.
