Borobi, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Mascot who won hearts around the world, is currently collecting dust in storage at the Queensland Museum.

The blue surfing koala's plight has come to the attention of the Gold Coast City Council which has vowed to bring the him back home to his natural habitat.

Mayor Tom Tate has written to former Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones to seek permission to have him returned and invited to various social events across the Gold Coast.

CGF President Sam Coffa said it needs to be treated as a legacy and its future will be decided with GOLDOC at a board meeting as early as next week.
