Bungling bookstore burglar gets stuck in sliding doors

A bookstore robbery didn’t go as planned after the would-be thief got caught in the glass sliding doors.

Security footage captured the moment the doors trapped the robber’s leg and backpack as he tried to enter the Collins Street store, in Melbourne’s CBD, just after midnight on March 15.

Once inside the complex, the man falls over on the escalator before climbing onto a ledge to access the bookstore.

The thug manages to enter the office of the store, but is unsuccessful at cracking open the safe. He is shown lifting his arms in apparent frustration, and leaves the shop.

The footage then captured him stumbling before walking out of the shopping complex onto a rear laneway.

Investigators are urging the man pictured in the video to come forward.
