One of the infamous Bondi hoarders has been arrested and charged after allegedly lashing out and spitting at a female police officer as council workers removed rubbish from their house.

Mary Bobolas was detained today outside her Boonara Avenue home following the confrontation just after 8am, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Ms Bobolas allegedly refused to move when asked to by police before spitting at officers as she was placed in custody.

Her daughter Elena screamed "get your hands off her" as her elderly mother struggled with three officers.

Ms Bobolas's daughter claimed her mother had merely been defending herself after a security guard, hired to stop the family from entering the clean-up area, assaulted her.

Police said in a statement a 73-year-old woman had been charged with wilfully obstructing police, resisting arrest and assaulting police.

She has been released on conditional bail to appear at Waverly Local Court on May 7.
