A ball of bait fish has lured a pack of sharks to one of Australia’s most famous beaches this morning.

A lifeguard got up close and personal with the eight grey nurse sharks at Bondi Beach, as they circled a large school of fish.

Video from the encounter shows excited surfers swimming in the crystal clear waters as the predators stalk the sea floor below them.

Grey nurse sharks are relatively harmless to humans and are protected under fisheries legislation in NSW.

Meanwhile, about two kilometres off North Head, a pod of dolphins was filmed frolicking off the heads – no doubt also enjoying the stellar winter day.
