Good behaviour bond for woman who threw stiletto at NSW cop

A woman who hurled her stiletto at a police officer's head during a brawl in Sydney has been placed on a good behaviour bond.

Talitiga Tapuai-Alesana, 26, took off her high-heeled shoe and threw it at a male sergeant causing a deep cut to his head during a melee outside the Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour in June.

In sentencing her over the assault, Magistrate Christopher O'Brien said it was "yet another example" of drunken behaviour in inner Sydney.

"Police are entitled to go about their business without the fear of being assaulted," he told Downing Centre Local Court today.

He placed her on a 15-month good behaviour bond and fined her $1000.

The court heard Tapuai-Alesana was "extremely remorseful" for what she had done.

The hospitality worker said she got off a boat at the harbour and became embroiled in a dispute involving various men, some of whom were part of the party she belonged to.

The court heard she was originally trying to help the policeman but became distressed when she allegedly saw an officer detain her cousin.

She then hurled her stiletto at the back of the officer's head.

During the melee, police allege another officer was also hit in the head by a 21-year-old man.
