A man has claimed that he just  “wanted to sunbake”, after he was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat on a Gold Coast tourist boat.

Police had been called to reports of a disturbance at the river-end of Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise about 7am today, and became involved in an hour-long stand-off.

Witnesses told 9NEWS the man had walked from the wharf on to a commercial boat and said he would jump in the water if he was not allowed to sunbake.

“This guy appeared, and they (boat staff) said get off…he said ‘no way’,” a witness said.

After the stand-off, police wrestled the 27-year-old to the ground and took him to hospital.  They found no explosives.

A police officer was injured in the incident and taken to hospital.
