Federal bomb squad officers have removed a suspected explosive military item found in a container in Sydney’s western suburbs.

Police were first called to the building of a global shipping company on Goulburn Street in Kings Park about 11am following reports of a military ordinance found inside a container.

Federal customs officers located the item after it was realised it had not been declared before entering the country.

Authorities then brought in the Australian Defence Force bomb squad as a precaution to deal with the item.

It is believed the object has military origins and could be a relic from a ship. It has since been deemed to be inexplosive and removed from the site.

Defence Force personnel will now work to destroy the item.
