Police give area 'all clear' after suspicious device found north of Geelong

The bomb squad has found a suspicious device in a car at Norlane in Geelong's north this morning, after streets were cordoned off to investigate. 

Emergency services were alerted to the car on the corner of Robin Avenue and Swallow Crescent about 8.00am after police executed a search warrant.

The bomb squad were called in to investigate what appeared to be a pipe bomb.

They located a pipe with black powder, which was X-rayed. A police spokeswoman said the remnants "will be taken away to be assessed".

According to the Geelong Advertiser, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s were taken to Geelong police station for questioning. 

SES crews in Corio were requested to bring 25 sandbags to the scene.

Police closed off part of Robin Avenue, and a crime scene was established.

Police said the situation has now been given the "all clear".
