The death of a woman whose body was found on a beach in northern NSW does not appear to be suspicious.

Police recovered the corpse from Tallow Beach, which is near Byron Bay, about 11.20am on Monday.

Members of the public contacted authorities after seeing the body in the sand dunes.

Early indications suggest her death is not suspicious, police say.

The area where she was found is close to the Suffolk Beachfront Holiday Park.

A post-mortem examination will try to formally establish how she died.
