Bob Geldof blames himself for daughter Peaches' death

Musician Bob Geldof has revealed in a television interview he blames himself for daughter Peaches' death earlier this year.

Peaches Geldof left behind husband Tom Cohen and two children when she died of a heroin overdose in her home in Kent in April.

Her mother Paula Yates died in 2000, also of a heroin overdose.

Mr Geldof, 63, opened up about his daughter's death in an interview with ITV News promoting a reunion tour for his old band, The Boomtown Rats.

He said newspaper articles on his children following their mother's death had "damaged" them.

"I'm not just blaming the newspapers ... you blame yourself, you're the father who's responsible who clearly failed," he said.

"What could you have done?"

An inquest into Ms Geldof's death was told the 25-year-old began using heroin again in February, two years after first seeking treatment for her addiction.

Mr Geldof said he knew his daughter was being treated and had talked to her about it.

"She was super bright ... she knew what life was supposed to be," he said.

"She tried to get there but she couldn't make it."
