Boat sprayed with gunfire at Sydney wharf

NSW Police are investigating whether a shooting at a wharf in Sydney's east on New Year's Day is linked to a man who suffered a gunshot wound at Bondi Beach.

Around 10 shots were fired at a cruiser in Rose Bay Wharf shortly before 11:35pm on Wednesday.

The vessel was damaged by the gunfire and a number of bullet casings were discovered on the ground.

A witness told police that a gunman shot at the boat and its captain as it pulled into the wharf, then escaped through the nearby course of the Royal Sydney Golf Club, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Another witness, Vanessa Lahoud, said that "we thought [the gunfire] was fireworks" until police arrived, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Later that night, police were later called to Bondi Beach following reports that a man had suffered a gunshot wound.

The 31-year-old man, who had been shot in the back, was conscious when police arrived. He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital and treated for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.

The man was released from hospital and is expected to be interviewed by police on Thursday.

Investigators are now trying to determine whether the incidents are linked.
