Two foreign fishing crews suspected of illegally fishing in Australian waters are being escorted to Darwin.

Border Protection Command boarded the two boats about 167 nautical miles north-northwest of Darwin on Monday, the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service says in a statement.

The first boat allegedly had about 190 kilograms of wet trepang aboard.

People on the second vessel were spotted throwing items overboard but were found to have fishing equipment and bags of salt.

Australian Customs vessels Cape St George and Arnhem Bay will take the apprehended boats and crew into Darwin for processing and further investigation.
