Pram bleach attack accused appeal sentences

Two women who threw bleach from a moving car on to a four-year-old girl have appealed their one-year jail terms.

A heavily pregnant Sarah Louise Roan, 21, made a brief appearance at Parramatta District Court yesterday with her co-accused Lauren Jackson, 22.

The pair had been hoping for a good behaviour bond when pleading guilty in January to throwing a bottle of bleach at a mother, her four-year-old daughter and six-month-old baby in a pram.

But a spate of offensive behaviour saw the pair both handed down minimum six month sentences over the Kellyville Ridge attack on May 8 last year.

The court heard the bottle had struck the four-year-old in the face, causing the child to drop to the ground screaming "It's stinging, it's stinging".

Jackson, who was a passenger in the vehicle, told police that the pair did not intend to hurt the family.

"We didn’t see them standing there. I thought it just hit the road and I just kept driving. If I knew it hit her I would have stopped and apologised," she said.

The four-year-old escaped the incident without any long-term injuries.

The accused's appeal case was adjourned to April 2.
