Bishop fixes website electoral breach

Liberal deputy leader Julie Bishop has avoided a possible $1800 fine after being shown her website was breaching election rules.

The foreign minister's website, www.juliebishop.com.au, did not have an authorisation on its front page until Tuesday - almost two-thirds of the way into the election campaign.

Under section 328A of the Commonwealth Electoral Act any electoral material published on the internet must be authorised if it is paid for.

The authorisation usually takes the form of the candidate's name and street address.

The failure to properly authorise internet material is a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to $1800 per breach.

AAP pointed out the omission to Ms Bishop's office on Tuesday morning and it was updated several hours later.
