Shorten launches Queensland campaign with the 'Bill Bus'

Win Queensland and, they say, you win government.

And so, Bill Shorten has hit the road, touring the critical battleground of the Sunshine State, in the hopes of eventually driving up to the gates of the Lodge.

Through 16 towns and across 1400km, the "Bill Bus" will stop in eight key marginal seats, heading north from the Sunshine Coast.

A nine-day campaign tour, before the official campaign tour.

But unlike last time, he'll be staying onboard the entire trip, instead of flying in between stops.

In November, Scott Morrison raised eyebrows, perhaps unfairly, during his trip along the Bruce Highway, when he occasionally travelled ahead on a plane or government car.

Bill Shorten now knows better.

Of course it's an old campaign technique, one which Mr Shorten's wife Chloe will join.

Steering Labor's agenda will be jobs and infrastructure.

"Queenslanders needs jobs, not cuts," he said today.

The Opposition Leader made his first stop at Logan, south of Brisbane, where he announced $33.4 million for the local hospital.

The state looms as a critical battleground, with eight seats held by the Coalition on margins of less than five per cent.

Leichhardt, Dawson, Flynn, Petrie, Bonner, Forde, Capricornia and Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton's seat of Dickson are all in Labor's crosshairs.

"We understand that if we are to win the next election, if we are to earn the honour of serving the nation, then we have to win Queensland," Mr Shorten said.
